When the feet are not aligned, the result can be emerging foot disorders and even joint and muscle pain from the feet and ankles, all the way up through the knees, hips, back and neck. Misalignment is usually caused by pronation or supination.
When the feet turn inward as you walk and run. The feet and ankles must be flexible to navigate different surfaces in different types of shoes, so some degree of pronation is normal for a healthy gait. Too much pronation (overpronation) causes misalignment and pain.
When the feet turn outward as you walk and run. Again, some degree of supination is normal and necessary, but too much puts pressure on the outside of the foot, causing misalignment and pain that may be felt throughout the body.
In many cases, people suffering from pain in other parts of their body – such as the knees, hips or back are diagnosed with over pronation or excessive supination. When the feet are properly aligned with custom insoles, the pain is alleviated.
